Gilman Travel Blog: Cairo
About Me
- Ben D.
- Cairo, Egypt
- My name is Ben and I am from Indianapolis, Indiana--a hoosier. I have been given the great privilege to study at the American University in Cairo this Fall. This was made possible through through the generosity of the Gilman International Scholarship Institute and Georgetown University. The purpose of this blog is to educate and generate interest among financial aid students of the merits of foreign study. Hopefully, I can help encourage a few more students of modest means to undertake a study abroad program. Feel free to browse and email me about ANY aspect of my trip. Bcd23@georgetown.edu

استمتعوا بهذه المشاهدة
After yet another long pause, the second video is complete. This one has lots of movement and music, so it would be best to fullscreen it and turn up the volume to compensate for the lapse in quality that goes along with streaming videos on the internet:

اخيراً : At Long Last.
So after dealing with many computer issues (don't ever believe anyone who says macs are inherently superior for video-editing) and finding an adequate internet connection--I am in a third world country after all--I can finally deliver on my video-promise:
So yeah, I hope you enjoy it. Pardon its amateurishness--there's only so much one guy w/ a shoddy camera and no tripod can do in 100 degree heat, especially while simultaneously balancing his schoolwork!

في مصر
I've arrived here at last in Egypt! I got in on the evening of August the 20th at around 7:oopm Cairo time. From where I was sitting, the final approach was auspicious: we passed overhead Giza and the Pyramids, and touched down just in time to see a crimson African sunset--I am told that the Sun's red tinge is not a product of equatorial proximity but in fact a pretty side effect of air pollution, which unfortunately can be found in abundance here.
All of my expectations have pretty much been shattered in the first few days; all save the heat.
This update comes quite belatedly, for I have already seen a great deal of Cairo and Egypt in these last 8 days. Therefore, I have decided to prepare a video with narration so as not to bore my readers.
That and more to be found in my forthcoming post.
